Advantages of Laparoscopy

Technological development applied to medicine has led to the increasingly frequent use of minimally invasive techniques for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Laparoscopic hysterectomy was first used in the late 80s, initially only for the treatment of benign gynecological diseases, but with the experience gained through the years there are new indications of laparoscopy in gynecology and its use expanded to staging procedures and treatment of ovarian cancer, uterine cervix and endometrium.

Advantages of Laparoscopic Surgery:

• Reductions in days of postoperative hospital stay
• Less postoperative pain and less consumption of analgesic medication
• More rapid reintegration of patients to their work
• Better cosmetic result

Among the disadvantages noted that requires a learning curve of surgeons performing the operation.
